Art exhibitions in Italy: Melozzo da Forlì

posted by Giorgio in: Emilia Romagna Art/design

There are artists which history forgot and this despite the seminal importance of their works. So we are glad to publish the news that a major exhibition dedicated to Melozzo da Forli, one of the most neglected and talented artists in art history will soon take place in his hometown. The exhibition will not only put on display his most beautiful paintings but will also give the public a deeper insight into the art of the Masters who most influenced him; from Beato Angelico and Mantegna to Bramante and Piero della Francesca. The exhibition organised by Studio Wilmotte et Associes and Lucchi & Biserni will open on January 29 and run until June 2011.

Saint Lawrence not a Caravaggio original

posted by Alison in: Emilia Romagna Travel in Italy Art/design

After news of a possible discover of a new Caravaggio painting - “San Lorenzo” - the painting has been determined not to be of Caravaggio origin. The ‘Martirio di San Lorenzo’ was originally reported by the Vatican newspaper, Osservatore Romano, as possibly being by Caravaggio, but the newspaper has since revealed that this is most likely not be the case.

The head of the Vatican Museums, Antonio Paolucci, has stated that the Saint Lawrence work is most likely a copy of an original Caravaggio. The Italians are describing the affair as an example of Caravaggio-mania in a year in which the country is celebrating the 400th anniversary of the painter’s death.

Paolucci has stated that the painting in question, a depiction of the martyrdom of Saint Lawrence on a gridiron, is a work of modest quality by flawed painting techniques. It doesn’t show the quality of a true Caravaggio and the statements confirm the doubts of Maurizio Marini, Caravaggio expert, on the authenticity of the painting when it was first found. According to reports, Saint Lawrence was not a subject that would have been known to Caravaggio.

Melanie Fiona sings Italian style: new Giuliano Palma single 'Nuvole Rosa'

posted by Alison in: Emilia Romagna Music: singers and songs Videos

Italian singer Giuliano Palma’s new single, “Nuvole Rosa” or “Pink Clouds” features Melanie Fiona and is perfect for a summer song number in the Mediterranean. Melanie Fiona is enjoying some success on the pop-soul scene at the moment, with such songs as “Give it to me right” and “It kills me”. This piece between Palma and Fiona is fun but we don’t get a lot of vocal collaboration between the two. Still, something catchy for a summer cocktail.

Some are funnier than others I agree but the one which will take place at Brisighella in the Lamone Valley up in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennine next July is quite particular and deserve all your attention, especially if you are in love; dedicated to couples who want to spend a romantic evening away from the maddening crowd, the Brisighella Romantica festival will take you on an unforgettable tour of the most romantic spots in town from the famous Belvedere to the enchanting herb garden releasing great skeins of scent into the air. The programme includes a candlelit dinner alfresco and a spectacular show during which thousands of paper lanterns will be released into the sky. Can you think of anything more romantic?

Raphael painting found in a cellar

posted by Giorgio in: Emilia Romagna Art/design

Raffaello’s works are worth millions and even one of his smallest paintings if put on the block, could easily fetch 40 million euros! I say this because a small painting by this artist has just been found in a cellar under Palazzo D’Este after centuries of neglect. Actually it was the precious and richly decorated frame which at first caught the eye of Mario Scalini, an important art expert which manages the art department in Emilia Romagna. Apparently the painting which depicts the head of a woman was started by the Maestro and then finished by one of his most famous and talented pupils: Giulio Romano! Infra-red examination has provided information on its structure and materials, confirming Mr Scalini’s attribution!

Here’a gallery of the legendary Ferrari 125 s. Lots of men have lusted after this gorgeous car which was the first to bear the name Ferrari since the previous model was for legal reasons registered under a different brand name. The Ferrari 125 was completed in 1946 and its chassis fashioned like an upturned boat. It was also provided with an astonishing engine projected by Luigi Bazzi and Gioacchino Colombo.
