Here are our first pics of George Clooney and his Italian showgirl-girlfriend, Elisabetta Canalis, on the red carpet at the 2010 Oscars. I don’t know the designer of Canalis’ dress (the clutch bag is Ferragamo), but I’ve seen better on her - it’s slightly ill-fitting to my eye. Even the recycled dress at the Venice film festival did more for her. We’ll have to wait for more news to emerge to see whether Italy’s favourite celebrity couple was hit at the world’s biggest red carpet event, but as we had already said - if you had a hand bag this good looking, wouldn’t you take her to the Oscars, too? George Clooney had been nominated for best actor for the film Up in the Air. (P.S Is it just me or does George need a hair cut?)
Update: Elisabetta Canalis wears a Roberto Cavalli dress.

Johnny Depp has just arrived in Italy to film Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck’s The Tourist; partly set in Venice (filming locations: the famous Hotel Danieli and Palazzo Pisani on the Grand Canal), the movie tells the story of a naïve American tourist who is used as a coy by an unscrupulous Interpol agent played by Angelina Jolie. Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck’s The Tourist is the remake of a 2005 French movie starring Sophie Marceau.

“La mia Roma” film contest is underway, showcasing short films with the eternal city as the central theme. You can share your version of Rome and its myriad faces, with finalists going to the 2010 Roma Fiction Fest. The competition is open to European residents, 18 years and over, with entries open until April 19th, 2010.
Rome stays with you, it imprints itself on your memory and in the heart without saying much. Rome welcomes you, it gives you the feeling of a piece of history. But in Rome there are also people who yell in traffic, who scribble their thoughts on the first blank wall seen, who get lost in the eternal night, who try to swim in the Trevi Fountain, who attach padlocks to Ponte Milvio, who wander the streets with a scooter. Past, present and future mix in a babble of languages and race: at the markets, bus stops, in the piazzas and the stations.
We want your take, your view, a frame from your story in Your Rome, outside of the usual places.
See the YouTube My Rome site for more details and see some of the videos posted so far. The video above celebrates a rare snow fall in Rome on February 12 this year - the first since 1986.
Claudio Baglioni is starting his 2010 One World Tour on March 6 in the US, and Italians get to hear his new single “Un po’ d’aiuto”, or “A little help”, on the radio. The song is part of a successful enterprise for Baglioni with his QPGA project. The Italian singer-songwriter has compiled a book, film, concert and double CD in one package.
“Un po’ d’aiuto” is one of the 52 songs the Italian crooner has included on his musical project which has a central theme of first, and then lost, love. The song is the second single from QPGA, and has been made with the collaboration of up to 70 artists. It’s a rock ballad, in similar style to Baglioni’s famous “Questo piccolo grande amore”.
The One World Tour starts in the US and Canada, before moving to Verona, Italy in April and then on to the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, Switzerland and Spain, before concluding in the UK at the Royal Albert Hall in May. After the jump you’ll find a video of “Un po’ d’aiuto” and Baglioni’s classic “Questo piccolo grande amore” from the 1985 Sanremo festival; which we first posted as a live version for one of our Italian love songs with a short translation.
Monica Bellucci might not be the greatest Italian actress who ever lived, but we think she certainly deserves the title of Italian diva for her sultry elegance. In this photo shoot for Max, the Mexico edition, she also concedes an interview with a few pearls of wisdom for us younger girls wondering what that something is that an Italian woman like Bellucci has, that’s missing from many of the other mediocre showgirls out there.
To put the record straight, Bellucci says that she’s not a film star, she’s an actress, and that after making love, a man falls asleep while the woman reflects. At 45 years old, she’s still a very sexy woman, and has plenty of intelligence to share about women and work.
Italian heart-throb and actor, Luca Argentero, models underwear for Intimissimi, an Italian lingerie brand, in their new advertising campaign. Luca is a former Big Brother Italy housemate who has been managed to make a career in acting after the reality series, appearing in the police fiction drama, “Carabinieri”. He has been married since last July to Italian actress Myriam Catania.

Gabriele Muccino’s latest movie Baciami ancora or Kiss me again, tells the story of a group of fortyish people who struggle to come to terms with divorce, failure and loneliness. The Italian director told reporters that he drew inspiration from his own life; it simply breaks your heart - went on Muccino - when after a weekend together, you have to drive your kids back to their mother‘s, kiss them goodbye and then watch them close the door on you; the pain one feels is unbearable.

Italian actress Ornella Muti has just been named Miss Italy Forever by Max magazine and apparently she‘s very proud of this new title, maybe a bit too much proud I must say! In fact last night the actress got quite angry when, during an interview, Bruno Vespa, a famous Italian tv presenter dared to called her granny! Here’ s the video!
We saw the famous kisses exhibition in Italy for Valentine’s Day, with international and Italian divas in scenes from well known films in amorous poses with their leading men. Another Valentine’s Day exhibition in Italy takes on just the fascination of the female figure, with photographs of women drinking while on set.
It’s not perhaps the most obvious of exhibitions, but it’s certainly a sensual, and even sexual theme for Valentine’s Day. The photographic exhibition takes place in Rome and the photos include actresses captured on set while enjoying a refreshment from their work.
It’s the art of drinking and the “Città del Gusto”, Rome, will be the stage for the exhibition, called “Sorsi da Star” from April 10th. Most of the photographs are ones taken in stolen moments, showing rare shots of unmasked stars from the 50’s in a time where “star” meant something different from our modern saturation of celebrities.

The Amalfi Coast and Salerno are very romantic places in Italy, no more so than on Saint Valentine’s Day. This year the town of Cava dei Tirreni is taking Valentine celebrations one step further in an exhibition called “Una città per amare”, or “a city to love”. On display will be gigantic photos of some of cinema’s world famous kisses.
The photos comes from the Bettmann archives, among some of the most important photographic collections in the world. Some famous Italian ‘baci’ are on show: Marcello Mastroianni and Sophia Loren in “Il girasole”, Rodolfo Valentino and Nita Naldi in “Sangue e arena” from 1922. In addition to the Italian divas are other famous kisses, with none other than Grace Kelly and James Stewart on show, too.
