Eating out in the Castelli romani region: Mascelloni at Genzano

Osteria i Mascelloni a Genzano di Roma

The Castelli Romani is a group of towns near Rome famous for the beauty of its landscape and the refreshing cool air. The region is also famous for its delicious cuisine and the superb restaurants which, during the hot summer months, draw thousands of tourists (and Romans to). One of the most successful and sought after restaurants in the area is the Osteria dei Mascelloni on Silvestri Sebastiano street at Genzano. Just a few days ago I had dinner there and I must confess that I was struck how perfect each dish was; from gnocchetti and pappardelle with wild boar sauce to the famous pasta Carbonara and pappardelle with hare sauce! The menu also listed such exquisite second courses as abbacchio or roast lamb and braised oxtail; all dishes, of course, were accompanied by fabulous wines that the owners every year buy from local winemakers.
