Rome's statues used for pollution protest

posted: Friday 06 June 2008 by Alison in: Rome

Rome’s famous statues have been used in an environmental protest by the group Terra!. The group placed gas masks across statues throughout the city, creating an array of Roman gods, angels, and saints with additional, high impact features. The protest was against traffic pollution and new laws on emissions, which the group claims have not been met by European authorities.

The statues were adorned with gas marks and placards overnight, which were then removed by authorities. See below for a photo gallery of the incident in the Italian capital.
