Many of you I’m sure must be familiar with the name of Mantua, the city where Romeo is sent in exile after killing Tybalt Capulet; surrounded on three sides by artificial lakes created in the 12th century Mantua was one of the great capitals of the Italian Renaissance.
The Powerful Gonzaga family, who ruled the whole province, loved art and hired the most important artists and architects of the day to beautify the city. Many years have passed since then of course, but the city of Mantua has retained all its enchanted beauty and love for the Arts; in fact every year the city hosts an important festival devoted to literature which attracts visitors and writers from all over the world; a heady mix of events that include concerts, recitals, lectures, public debates and pantomimes.
This year’s program will feature big names such as French writer Daniel Pennac and Corrado Augias, one of the most famous and respected journalists in Italy. The festival will run from 3rd to 7th September. For more information please click here.
