In news from Italy this week we get everything from the possibility of natural disasters to gossip over Italian football coaches and in the meantime you’d think Carla Bruni was Italy’s first lady for all the attention she gets in the press here. See the news below:
AC Milan coach Allegri illegally parks in Milan
We’ve seen the kind of parking that is “acceptable” in Rome, and while Milan is a busy city too, generally the northerners are slightly more disciplined. In the photo above, though, we see AC Milan coach, Massimiliano Allegri parking in a no-parking zone near a pedestrian crossing, in the opposite direction to a one-way street. And nearly risking an accident as he pulls away in his Audi A1.
A Roman Holiday for earthquake scare
After news broke that Lazio and Rome was facing a possible earthquake, the city either went into fright or went into holiday mode. With people avoiding built-up areas (and therefore office blocks), when the earthquake never really happened, a figure of 20 percent absenteeism from work in Rome was recorded. Apparently excuses displayed in closed shop windows included the following: “closed for family reasons”, “closed for wedding”, and simply “reopening tomorrow”.
More news from Italy this week after the jump.
The next Woody Allen movie will be filmed in Rome, after the famous American director did Match Point in London, Midnight in Paris in the French capital and Vicky Cristina Barcelona in the Spanish city. The confirmation of the new Woody Allen film from Rome comes as the director is in Italy with his New Orleans Jazz Band.
Italian cinema will be hoping for a small slice of glory and the world famous director could bring more notoriety to filmmaking in Rome after local production movie Manuale d’Amore 3 featured Robert de Niro and Monica Bellucci. Currently the cast and plot of the new Allen film is top secret, but filming should start in August. Will we see Carla Bruni appear in a Woody Allen film in Italy? It would be something to gossip about if it happens.
The studios of Cinecittà will host what is likely to be a big American film after Rome has featured in other big ticket films like Gangs of New York, Angels and Demons, and Barney’s Version, not to mention past greats like Roman Holiday, Ben Hur and Cleopatra. On Rome, Woody Allen has said:
“Every time [filming] it has been like declaring love to certain places and projecting my feelings about the places that have meant the most to me in life. I hope I can do the same with Rome. Both my family and I can’t wait to spend a long time in that amazing city.”

Written by Besma Lahouri, the unauthorised biography of the premiere dame Carla Bruni “ Carla, une vie secrete” or Carla, a secret life will hit bookshops next week. In this new biography the French first lady is depicted as an ambitious woman, with a strong sex drive and so insensitive as to invite her former lovers at the Palais de l’Élysée and introduce them to her husband. The French president’s entourage tried to stop the publication of the book but to no avail!

Former Italian supermodel and now French first lady Carla Bruni is known as one of the most sophisticated high profile ladies in the world. In fact, she has had to wear the title of ‘trophy wife’ more than once by Sarkozy detractors. But this photo is one of those moments when all of us normal women in the world who don’t have access to high class stylists and the best of the beauty business can breathe a sigh of relief. In fact, we can gloat, dammit.
That gloating is at the expense of this very unfortunate up-close shot of Carla Bruni. We’re not sure exactly what happened to produce a photo of this kind (too much botox is the word on the street), but it could have started with the use of excessive makeup the morning it was taken, and seeing it you can understand how Sarkozy might want to swap his trophy wife for Chantal Jouanno.
Relieved gloating aside, we publish this photo just in case you needed proof that the beautiful people of the world are very normal people, too. And that I might not live eternally with the shame of the plenty of ugly and embarrassing photos my parents keep of me - may they always stay buried in that cardboard box!

We doubt if this nude pic of Carla Bruni is what we’ll see in the Woody Allen film, but one thing is sure: the French first lady has accepted an offer from the famous and sometimes controversial American director to appear in a film. Carla Bruni says herself that she is not an actress, although having had a career as a model and singer would probably help all the same.
We suspect Bruni’s nude modelling days are over, now that she is the wife of a president, and the Woody Allen role is nothing specific as yet. Madame Sarkozy says:
“I am not an actress at all. Maybe I’ll be completely hopeless, but I can’t miss an opportunity like this one in my life. When I’m a grandmother, I’d like to be able to say I made a film with Woody Allen.”
Just what I was thinking about my possible future grandchildren, too.

These pics show Carla Bruni on the beach for a summer holiday with her husband, French president Nicolas Sarkozy. Who is the most famous Italian woman in the world? Patrizia D’Addario, for her exploits with Silvio Berlusconi, Elisabetta Canalis for dating George Clooney, or Carla Bruni, for her transformation from top model to France’s first lady?

Sheik Waleed Al Saud who just a few months ago bought Carla Bruni’s family castle at Castagneto Po near Turin for more than 17 million euros has now decided to resell the property. Apparently he ’s too busy and can’t even find the time to visit the place! Only God knows what former model and singer Carla Bruni must have thought when last week she visited the castle in Italy with her husband French president Sarkozy in tow! Was she sad at the prospect that her former adobe will probably be converted into luxury flats? Did her memory stray to the Italian summers of her lost childhood? Or was she too busy playing her Premiere Dame role to pay any attention to the past?
In an improvised interview at the Paris premiere of Sacha Baron Cohen’s new character film, Bruno, the actor turned up in full character profile to speak with the people of Paris. After a couple of jokes about French President Sarkozy’s height compared with his Italian born wife Carla Bruni, he moved on to fashion advice, including a quip about the recent Berlusconi-Naomi Letizia scandal.
Saying that Sarkozy should wear “the heels” and Carla “the flats” as she is to tall for him, Bruno said that perhaps Sarkozy should consider following Berlusconi and “date schoolgirls”. For an idea of the unorthodox character, see the video above of the official Bruno trailer.
This is Bruno’s second foray into Italian culture that may prove unpopular, after he was thrown out of a Milan fashion event and subsequently arrested. For the video of Bruno’s arrest, see our previous post back in September.

Former Italian actress and model, Lory del Santo, has revealed who she would most like to marry in the world. Del Santo was born in Veneto on September 28, 1958, and is famous for her relationship with Eric Clapton in the 80’s, and their son, Conor, who died in 1991.
Lory del Santo is still very visible in Italy, having partecipated in “Celebrity Survivor” on Italy’s “Isola dei Famosi” television program. In an interview with gossip magazine “Diva e Donna”, del Santo reveals that the only men she would like to marry are Giulio Andreotti, powerful Italian politician whose figure was presented in the film “Il Divo”, or Silvio Berlusconi, Italy’s current prime minister and Mediaset mogul.
The magazine, clearly expecting a young, hot Italian footballer, asked why this choice. Lory del Santo replied with “to feel pure pleasure, like Carla Bruni”. We presume for the power and money. See how Del Santo would compare with Carla Bruni on Polisblog.
Have you ever seen a First Lady do advertising for a car? It can happen when the lady in question is Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, wife to French president Nicolas Sarkozy.
While Carla has always been famous for her modelling career, and stints as a singer-songwriter, she has suddenly been reclaimed as Italian, given her new First Lady status. While born in Turin into a rich industrial family, Carla grew up in France and Switzerland and has often moved in sophisticated circles - perhaps more so even than her husband.
It seems that being a First Lady gives you an aura that even a modelling career can’t create. And Carla recently knocked the socks off the British on a visit to Englans, showing what refined Jacqueline Kennedy-like grace is all about. In these videos, prior to her First Lady gig, Carla Bruni gives some high profile visibility to Lancia, with the advertisements doing the rounds across Europe and, if not selling cars, selling an intriguing First Lady image for the French.
