Giusy Ferreri vs Rino Gaetano: Ferreri new album does rock anthem cover of "Il cielo è sempre più blu"

By Alison in: Music: singers and songs Videos

Italy’s hot singing success Giusy Ferreri is releasing a new album, following her extremely popular first album “Gaetana”. The second album is entitled “Fotografie” and includes a cover of Italy’s rock anthem “Ma il cielo è sempre più blu” (”The sky is always bluer”). If you’ve ever been to a disco in Italy, this is one of those songs where the Italians hit the dance floor to jump up and down like crazed meerkats and sing their heads off.

Meaning that it’s a tall order for any artist wanting to do a cover of one of the most popular songs in the last 30 years of Italian music history. Despite some skepticism, Giusy Ferreri has got the voice for it and pulls it off very well. She said about the song:

“Interpreting this song was not easy by any means. The great Rino Gaetano used to sing this track with extreme truth, mixed with sarcasm and a timbre of voice that seemed like a slap in the face of the society he was recounting. Reinterpreting this song today means understanding that the themes he was singing about are still, unfortunately, current, and I tried to sing his words with all the irony, anger, energy and depth I could muster. I hope I’ve managed that.”

Above is the original videoclip from Rino Gaetano and after the jump, you can hear Giusy Ferreri’s very accomplished interpretation with a few lyrics from the song to give you an idea of its theme. More from her new album, Fotografie, to come.

Giusy Ferreri's new single "La Scala"

By Giorgio in: Music: singers and songs

La scala

Only a few days ago our colleagues over at Soundsblog talked about Giusy Ferreri’s La scala or The Ladder, but we now know for sure that the same song will soon be released as a new single from Gaetana, Miss Ferreri’s most recent album. Actually the tune caused quite a stir on the net so it’s now clear that the record company is just trying to cash in on the buzz around the song!

La scala, written by the talented Linda Perry, is undoubtedly a nice song but as I have just said I’m not really sure it’s worth all this hullabaloo. Anyway fed up with all these speculations, Giusy Ferrery has flown to Barcelona to shoot the video of the song, so stay tuned for more news on the singer!

Italian singers: Tiziano Ferro interview

By Alison in: Music: singers and songs People

Here is an extract from an interview with Tiziano Ferro, published in Milan’s Corriere newspaper, a few days before Tiziano Ferro debuts his Tour 2009. The interview, by journalist Andrea Laffranchi, touches on many topics including Italy’s music scene today, Giusy Ferreri and the current talent show trend.

While the full article contains some interesting and sincere exchanges with the Italian singer, we give you a few extracts below to give you an idea of the person within Tiziano Ferro.

On the lack of song writers in Italy, Tiziano Ferro has said: “In Italy there are more singers than songs. The song is the key element, without it I wouldn’t get anywhere.” And in a candid comment on talent shows: ” ‘Amici’? I’ve never watched it. X-Factor? This year I watched only a few episodes and no-one impressed me.”

Italian female singers: Laura Pausini and Giusy Ferreri international success

By Alison in: Music: singers and songs

giusi album i tunes

According to worldwide rankings of album sales, the Media Traffic site reports that in the 49th week of 2008, the albums entering 12th and 21st position are Giusy Ferreri’s “Gaetana”, and Laura Pausini’s “Primavera in anticipo” (Early Spring). Statistics show that Ferreri has sold 81,000 copies, and Laura Pausini’s new album is even more successful at 130,000 copies.

These are impressive results for two Italian singers with modest worldwide renown, especially compared to the queen at the top of the charts, Beyoncé with “I am…Sasha Fierce” selling 591,000 copies. This shows that authentic Italian music talent is healthy and blooming with both a consolidated artist and emerging star experiencing success.

Giusy Ferreri: new album released, featuring duet with Tiziano Ferro

By Alison in: Music: singers and songs

giusy ferreri

Expectations are high for the release of Italian singer Giusy Ferreri’s album “Gaetana“, happening today. The album follows the huge success of the single “Non Ti Scordar Mai di Me“, result of Ferreri’s runners-up title on the Italian X-Factor show.

The new Italian pop star’s album is being released on the same day as Laura Pausini’s “Primavera in Anticipo”, and so Ferreri may have some difficulty topping the charts as the two Italian female singers go head to head in the rankings. Ferreri has already given the Italian music scene some surprise success though, and so the jury’s out on this new voice in Italian music.

In addition to our previous video posts on the singles “Non ti scordar mai di me” and “Novembre“, after the jump we give you a couple of new songs from Giusy Ferreri, “Stai Fermo Lì” (Stay right there) and “L’Amore e Basta” (Love and nothing else), sung together with Tiziano Ferro.

X Factor winners new single: Aram Quartet with "Un'Emozione Da Poco"

By Alison in: Music: singers and songs Videos

aram quartet

Aram Quartet were the winners of Italy’s latest X Factor series, and have just released their new video clip. The song is “Un’emozione da poco” or “A recent emotion”, and is a cover version of the original 70’s song written by Ivano Fossati and sung by Anna Oxa.

The Aram Quartet has modernised the song, which now has a choral feel to similar Italian band Pooh. The irony of the X Factor happened this year with the winners, Aram Quartet, being overshadowed by the “moral victory” of Giusy Ferreri and her success with two singles “Non ti scordar mai di me“, and the new “Novembre“.

“Un’emozione da poco” is from the album ChiARAMente which had modest success on the charts, but is now already out of the rankings of the most sold albums in Italy. After the jump, you’ll find the video clip of the song, which has a modern rock opera feel to it.

Italian songs: Giusy Ferreri and the video of "Non ti scordar mai di me"

By Alison in: Music: singers and songs

This is the video of the new song from Giusy Ferreri, “non ti scordar mai di me” or “never forget me”, written for her by Tiziano Ferro. The artist with her gutsy voice is in a kind of semi-debut and became known to the Italian public after her appearance on the X-Factor show. The clip shows an Almodovar-like atmosphere and colours, and could really launch the album, set to be released in October, although the single has already established itself at the top of the Italian charts.
