Despite her international success, Monica Bellucci seems to have no good luck with Italian critics who tend to pan all her movies; now the actress could turn the tables on them by playing the iconic Italian journalist Oriana Fallaci in a movie. Here’s what Monica Bellucci told Ansa:

It has not yet been confirmed but I’ll most likely be in the movie; I have a great admiration for Polish director Andrzej Wajda.

We wish her good luck but to play Oriana Fallaci, one of Italy’s most talented journalists and writers (her articles and books critical of Islam and Arabs never failed to arouse wide interest -and some controversy) won’t be an easy task! In the meanwhile, the actress and her young son Louis will star in a French movie called Un eté brulant by Philippe Garrel.

The Italian actress famous for such international blockbusters as The Matrix Reloaded and The Passion Of The Christ is now in Turkey shooting a new film called the Rhynos Season, but his fans here in Italy can’t wait to see her play in this highly successful Italian tv series aired on Canale 5; according to sources, the beautiful actress will be the love interest of Daniele Ghirelli played by Italian actor Fabio Troiani. The role of Monica Bellucci was created when the series was in post-production, so cast and crew had to go back to Cinecittà and start shooting again.

Here’s what the Italian actress -best known for her role in Massimo Troisi’s Il Postino- told A magazine when asked if she would give birth at 50:

Yes even at 60. When I was born my mother was in her forties and her hair was white; sometimes at school my friends would call out and say : “Look! Your granny is waiting for you.” But I did not care; I had a very happy childhood and believe that this the right age to have a child. My Husband and I are trying to conceive our second child, but it’s not so easy. I’m often away from home and when I am home my daughter knocks on our bedroom door always at the wrong time!

Giovanna Mezzogiorno is an Italian actress whose impressive performance in the film Vincere has earned her the prize of best actress according to America’s National Society of Film Critics. The film, directed by Marco Bellocchio, is about the woman who is presumed to be Benito Mussolini’s first wife, Ida Dalser. No records of Mussolini’s first marriage exist, but Dalser is believed to have given him the money to establish his propaganda newspaper, which was the start of his political career, and to have even borne a son. The film traces these events and the eventual seclusion of Dalser in a mental hospital.

Giovanna Mezzogiorno managed an intense performance in the film, successfully depicting the blinding passion for the man who ultimately destroys her, and the best actress prize could herald an ultimate Oscar nomination for the actress. Mezzogiorno is considered one of Italy’s more mature and better actresses, and you may have seen her in films such as “La finestra di fronte” or “Facing Window”. If Mezzogiorno were to gain an Oscar nomination, it would be a much needed recognition of Italian cinema.
