
Alberto Alessi is about to launch a new collection of houseware products inspired by the past. During the 1920s, 30s and 40s - Mr Alessi said - the design was not so important and manufacturers used to pay more attention to the functionality and costs of their products than to their exterior and what they look like. So this is why I decided to create this new collection called “Memories from the future” featuring teapots, shakers and trays.

Rome will be the capital of haute couture from Friday July 9 to July 14th with the AltaRomAltaModa event, which celebrates art, fashion and old-school tailoring tradition. The event starts on Friday with the multimedia exhibition “Il gesto sospeso”, inspired by the sculptured clothing of Roberto Capucci.
The Valentino label will then open the “Made in Town” boutique in Piazza Mignanelli which includes an exhibition on local production by Pascal Gautrand, followed by a presentation at Palazzo Fendi by Andrea Spezzigu and Gautrand on where you can get handmade men’s fashion and accessories.

Italian designer Giorgio Armani, fit for his age and eternally sun-tanned, is getting some more rays on a beach in Saint-Tropez. It’s that time of the year when the VIPs of Italy’s celebrity set go on holiday for some early bronzing. After the jump you’ll see that Mr Armani was with a mystery girl who might or might not be one of his models. The two put together certainly make for a strange couple, although to be honest, the photo looks a little odd to me. Meanwhile, Armani continues his 2010 swimsuit look of board shorts, ditching his speedos.

Madonna is to design or rather put her signature to a collection of sunglasses for Italian label Dolce & Gabbana. The collection which should hit stores next May includes retro black plastic shades and gold-and-silver metal frames which will all bear the logo MDG. Actually the singer whose fastidiousness is notorious is still poring over the sketches that she got from Dolce & Gabbana, so we really don‘t know what will happen!
