Italian designer Alberta Ferretti dresses Chelsy Davy at royal wedding

By Alison

Alberta Ferretti royal wedding designs for Chelsy Davy

Tomorrow is the big day (the Royal Wedding April 29), and Italian fashion designer Alberta Ferretti is to dress Prince Harry’s girlfriend, Chelsy Davy. While Kate Middleton will be the centre of attention, Chelsy Davy will wear two Alberta Ferretti designs - one for the ceremony and the other for the evening celebrations.

The first dress from the Italian designer to be worn by Chelsy will be a satin number with an acqua green silk jacket to match. If these drawings are anything to go by, it will crossover at the front with wide shoulders and will have a demure length below the knee. Chelsy’s royal wedding evening dress will be a full length, off-the-shoulder design in midnight blue crepe.

Italian dsigner Antonio Fusco's villa on Cavallo island

By Giorgio

Between Corsica and Sardinia there is an enchanting small island called Cavallo. Here among wild woods and white sand beaches, Italian fashion designer Antonio Fusco has built his dream house. Designed by architect Giovanni Pacciani, this Italian villa has huge picture windows (from which one can enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape) sophisticated lamps by Philippe Starks, terracotta flooring, wood trim and… lots of fashion sketches pinned to the walls or elegantly lying about the rooms.

Milan Fashion Week: Luciano Soprani autumn/winter 2009-10

By Giorgio

Luciano Soprani

Milan fashion week is in full swing and the city is teeming with celebrities, but at the Luciano Soprani show all eyes were on Italian actress Manuela Arcuri who walked down the catwalk wearing one of Luciano Soprani’s new creations for autumn 2009. The famous Italian brand has designed a sleek collection of sophisticated day-into-the evening clothes. Much admired were the double-breasted coats, the elegant jackets worn with high-waisted tapered trousers, the black scarf-necked sheath dresses and siren-like evening gowns. More photos after the jump!

Valentino Museum in Rome for Italian fashion postponed

By Alison

valentino garavani niente museo a Roma

Valentino is one of the most prestigious brands in the world of Italian fashion: famous clothes for Jackie Kennedy, Audrey Hepburn and Veruschka were often signed Valentino. About a year ago Rome’s council had promised the creation of a museum in his honour, in the old fish market district in Rome. The initiative would have been an alternative to Milan’s stage as Italy’s premier fashion city.

Rome’s fish market area, despite the name, is a central area in Rome between the Circus Maximus and the Imperial Forum. It contains Rome’s fashion booths, including names such as Louis Vuitton.

But the display of Italian fashion history has suffered a set back with Rome’s new council, which has decided there will in fact be no Valentino museum in Rome. This is partly due to the primadonna attitudes of the fashion designer, who wanted 5,000 square metres at his disposition, which would not have dedicated space to a fashion school or show facilities. With Rome’s first fashion museum project abandoned, Milan should remain the throne of fashion in Italy.

After the Just Cavalli Cafè in Milan, Cavalli Club in Florence in opens

By Alison

The first Cavalli Club has been inaugurated in Florence, with Roberto Cavalli from Just Cavalli fashion house opening the fashionable club on Saturday. The project is from architect Italo Rota, who designed the Just Cavalli Cafè in Milan, and is a new concept on night life in Italy.

Roberto Cavalli says he wanted to give a gift to the city of Florence, his city, by restoring some of the antique splendors of the city. The former church is a perfect place to mix the past with the future, “uniting tradition and innovation, inside which I built a futuristic club, which was missing in Florence.”

The Cavalli Club is a kind of floating boat inside the external, original architectural shell. It is a large mirror object made from gold and steel that contains a bar, restaurant and the rest. It doesn’t touch the walls and can be dismounted. The game of reflections and mirrors multiply the space, creating harmony between the historic and contemporary structures.

Italian Fashion designer Roberto Cavalli snapped in his swimsuit

By Giorgio

Italian fashion designer, Roberto Cavalli was snapped in his swimsuit at beach; I don’t know what you think, but to me he looks great; he’s pushing seventy but looks far younger than that! After all I know men half his age who went over the hill years ago when they were just in their mid-thirties!
