Italy’s new talent Pierdavide Carone, young singer songwriter from the finals of talent show ‘Amici’ on Italian television, appears in this video clip of his new song “Mi piaci, ma non troppo”- “I like you, but not too much”. The Italians were hoping for a video that reflected the irreverent nature of the song and are lamenting the banal and predictable content of this one. Which is particularly unfortunate because Pierdavide is more interesting than this. Check out his funky new song above.

Italian singer Giuliano Palma’s new single, “Nuvole Rosa” or “Pink Clouds” features Melanie Fiona and is perfect for a summer song number in the Mediterranean. Melanie Fiona is enjoying some success on the pop-soul scene at the moment, with such songs as “Give it to me right” and “It kills me”. This piece between Palma and Fiona is fun but we don’t get a lot of vocal collaboration between the two. Still, something catchy for a summer cocktail.

The new album from veteran Italian singer, Mina, features a beautiful duet with Seal. Mina’s new album, called ‘Caramella’ has had its Italian release this week, with the songwriters on board making the difference. According to reports, Seal knew of Mina and was happy to collaborate with the singer, also known as the “Cremona Tiger”. The song is the only English track on the album, and was written by Seal and Pam Sheyne, who also writes music for Christina Aguilera and Jessica Simpson.
The rest of the songs are a who’s who of the Italian music scene, with two others duets appearing. The first is between Mina and Giorgia and comes from the 2007 album, ‘Stonata’, and the second duet is with Lucio Dalla from 2003. Listen to the Mina-Seal duet after the jump.

Eros Ramazzotti was snapped while relaxing in a hotel in Miami! The Italian singer who held a recital at the L. Knight Center just a few days ago still looks gorgeous (he’s pushing fifty) but if I were him I would shave off that stubble which, in my opinion, does not become him at all!

Italy’s talent show ‘Amici’ concluded this week, with some tough competition from the final four candidates who competed for the victory. With most of the competitors already gaining record contracts and entre to other projects, victory on the ‘Amici’ show was the icing on the cake. Above is a video of Italian singer Emma Marrone who won the contest, in front of Loredana, another rock singer with her own individual style.
Other finalists included tenor Matteo, who brought the critics virtually to their feet with his rendition of Nessun Dorma, and Pierdavide - a quirky Italian singer-songwriter who loves performing his own work. You can forget X-Factor - these performers have done the hard yards and gone through the Amici school under some tough criticism and competition, being mentored along the way.
I’ll be frank and say that I really think Loredana should have won. Her voice, presence and style just totally blew me away and hopefully she’s not non-commercial enough for us not to see her on the scene in the future. I doubt you’d find her happily taking her place on television at the Sanremo festival because she is what you’d called an artist. Below are videos of the other finalists and a couple of their performances from the Amici finale this week.

Former Italian supermodel and now French first lady Carla Bruni is known as one of the most sophisticated high profile ladies in the world. In fact, she has had to wear the title of ‘trophy wife’ more than once by Sarkozy detractors. But this photo is one of those moments when all of us normal women in the world who don’t have access to high class stylists and the best of the beauty business can breathe a sigh of relief. In fact, we can gloat, dammit.
That gloating is at the expense of this very unfortunate up-close shot of Carla Bruni. We’re not sure exactly what happened to produce a photo of this kind (too much botox is the word on the street), but it could have started with the use of excessive makeup the morning it was taken, and seeing it you can understand how Sarkozy might want to swap his trophy wife for Chantal Jouanno.
Relieved gloating aside, we publish this photo just in case you needed proof that the beautiful people of the world are very normal people, too. And that I might not live eternally with the shame of the plenty of ugly and embarrassing photos my parents keep of me - may they always stay buried in that cardboard box!

In a long interview granted to Telepiù magazine, Italian singer Gigi d’Alessio whom we have recently seen in a prime-time show on Italian television talked at a length about family and success. It warms your heart through and through - said the singer- when people on the street come up to you and greet you as if you were an old friend! It saddens me that my parents are not here to share all this with me. They died before I had my first really big success.
Gigi D’Alessio and her girl friend Anna Tatangelo are expecting their first child together (fourth for D’Alessio).
