Belen Rodriguez takes her clothes off for luxury jewellery brand

Belen Rodriguez has recently taken her clothes off for 2Jewels, a famous jewellery brand, and replaced them with a set of beautiful jewels. But this is not the first time that the gorgeous show girl from Argentina goes naked; since her debut on Italian television, her career has been almost exclusively based on her good looks and scandalous love affairs, especially the one with photographer Fabrizio Corona. In any case, it is not for us to pass judgment on her career choices; we just want to show you the beautiful photos from the shooting.

Italian showgirl Federica Nargi enjoys nightlife in Milano Marittima

The pic shows Federica Nargi having fun at the disco in Milano Marittima, one of Italy’s fun capitals. The show girl took a break from the Stricia la notizia show on Italian television and apparently from her boyfriend hunky football player Alessandro Matri too. Judging from her broad smile and twinkling eyes, she seems not to miss him at all!

Verdi's Nabucco on Italian television to celebrate 150 years of unification

By Alison

150_years_Italian_unification

To celebrate 150 years of Italian unification, Italy went back to what it knew best about its traditions and could most celebrate. National broadcaster RAI treated Italians to a live performance of Giuseppe Verdi’s Nabucco on Italian television last night. It’s a difficult move to make opera accessible to the population via an entire opera length national broadcast, but for those of us who don’t mind an Italian aria, it wasn’t a bad thing (given the general quality on Italian television, you could do much worse).

Nabucco was broadcast from Rome and before the performance started, the orchestra played the Italian national anthem “Fratelli d’Italia”. In attendance was Italy’s president Giorgio Napolitano and prime minister Silvio Berlusconi, among other Italian dignitaries. To hear some of what you missed, see the video after the jump of a performance of Verdi’s Va’ Pensiero.

Valentino Rossi on Italian cabaret show: girls, the number 46 and Ducati

By Alison

Valentino_Rossi_interview_cabaret_show

Valentino Rossi confermed he is one of Italy’s greatest sports stars and all-round funny guys on the Italian television cabaret show, Chiambretti Night. The show is hosted by Piero Chiambretti and gave the motorcycle champion the opportunity to demonstrate that he is still a down-to-earth, nice guy living a dream he has had for many years.

Valentino Rossi talked of his number 46, his love life and his career, as Chiambretti didn’t leave much untouched ground. Valentino Rossi is now 32 years old and has been racing since he was young. According to the program, Rossi wanted to open a kiosk when he was about 17 years old, but his precocious talent gave him other ambitions.

Dressed as if he was having a beer at home with the boys, Valentino always behaves as if he were among friends. He jokingly said that at 32 he’s still happy in MotoGP, and that at the age of 40 to 42 years he will spend his retirement in Superbike (perhaps a jab at fellow motorbike champion and old rival, Max Biaggi). While Rossi’s first tests with Ducati didn’t go too well, he hasn’t regretted his decision to move there from Yamaha: news that took the motorcycle world by storm and handed Italians a long-harboured fantasy that they would see Rossi in red.

Italian showgirl battles: Belen Rodriguez and the Sanremo tango

By Alison

After seeing Elisabetta Canalis’ dancing performances and interview with Robert de Niro at the 2011 Sanremo Festival, it’s time to examine her co-host and showgirl competitor, Belen Rodriguez. The Argentinian model and entertainer has exploded onto the Italian showgirl scene, being both a controversial and well-loved figure.

After a long relationship with Italian football star, Marco Borriello, Belen started dating infamous paparazzo Fabrizio Corona, which hasn’t done her reputation many favours. But she seems to have risen above that, and her popularity of late has only grown, such that she was invited to be a part of the Sanremo festival, alongside Elisabetta Canalis. The latter has enjoyed an immensely high profile since her relationship with George Clooney started.

Belen could have been considered the underdog at the festival: a foreigner and with no Oscars boyfriend to flaunt. It seems to have created a situation though, where Belen showed off her entertainer characteristics. Apart from her sensual looks and sometimes girlish shyness, Rodriguez showed she can dance and sing - and be nice, which is what won over the Italian public. For this showgirl battle, the fascination of the foreigner and a slightly more talented performance, beat the local star, Elisabetta Canalis, who was only proved to be out of her depth.

Italian showgirl battles: Elisabetta Canalis De Niro interview and Just a Boy dance

By Alison

The Italian television event of the year was spiced up by the battle between showgirls Elisabetta Canalis and Belen Rodriguez. While your standard Italian showgirl here in Italy, Canalis has been launched into the international scene by her relationship with George Clooney. Apart from the 2011 Sanremo festival playing on the attractiveness of the two ladies, the couple were required to actually do something every so often in a kind of ongoing talent quest throughout the show.

Elisabetta Canalis doesn’t enjoy huge popularity here in Italy and apart from the handbag factor, many Italians wonder what a man like George Clooney is doing with the girl. But what do the Americans think about Canalis, especially after her performances at the 2011 Sanremo festival?

While she is an attractive girl, the indignity of Canalis’ dancing and the now infamous interview with Robert de Niro (video after the jump) have done her no favours in Italy or abroad, for that matter. While overseas, Canalis has been elevated to professions of model, actress and dancer, to us in Italy she is just a showgirl. One comment on JustJared about Canalis’ Just a Boy dance at Sanremo summarises thus:

Haute couture Italian fashion: Elisabetta Canalis and Belen Rodriguez at the Sanremo festival

By Alison

Sanremo fashion: Elisabetta Canalis and Belen Rodriguez

The 2011 Sanremo Festival saw the Italian showgirl duo of Elisabetta Canalis and Belen Rodriguez nearly steal the show, with the music contest turning into a who’s who of Italian fashion. In this gallery, you can see both the girls and the various creations they wore, and especially check out Elisabetta Canalis’ look if you want to know what it is that makes a man like George Clooney tick.

The first night saw a play on contrasting primary colours with Elisabetta Canalis in Donatella Versace (red) and Belen Rodriguez in royal blue, dressed by Alberta Ferretti. The second outing that same evening saw Belen wear a long, black flowing outfit while Canalis went sexy in pearl grey in a classic cut dress with Swarovski crystals.

The second night of the festival saw Belen Rodriguez dressed by Fendi with a black sparkly dress and round-neck cut. Her second dress was electric blue and the third, still from Fendi, was a powedery colour. Elisabetta Canalis was dressed by Emilio Pucci and her first number wowed the crowd - a wrap around white dress with cut-out back. She then passed to brown tones before finishing the evening in a one-shouldered gown of midnight blue. More after the jump:

Belen Rodriguez, Elisabetta Canalis and Italian celebrities: what is the Sanremo festival?

By Alison

Rodriguez_Canalis_Sanremo

The Sanremo Festival is traditionally considered Italy’s premiere music festival - a forum to discover new Italian musical talent and a classic show-biz event that Italians like so very much. Obviously with a new era in media and television, the Sanremo Festival has become one of Italy’s biggest television events.

The opening night of the 2011 Sanremo Festival saw the Belen Rodriguez and Elisabetta Canalis fashion duel finally broadcast, and the usual slew of Italian celebrities, old and new, who are dusted off for the annual event. The songs have almost taken backstage in recent times, and we’re treated to a series of second-rate celebrities, gaffes and silly jokes. But that’s not to take away from the scale of this event.

While the Sanremo Festival could hardly be considered a show of high class culture, it still tops the Italian television ratings every year. The opening night for 2011 held an average of over 10 million Italian viewers, which is near 50 percent of the overall television viewing for the evening. And it was a Monday night. But what can the personalities and subtleties of this year’s opening night tell us?
