Before appearing on the Sanremo Festival stage last night, Elisabetta Canalis and Belen Rodriguez were present at the press conference to show off their fashion sense before Italian television’s biggest event. As you can imagine, the two show girls - cynosure of all eyes wherever they go - were dressed to the nines. The former in black and the latter sporting one of Moschino’s latest creations. But who do you think has better style?

It seems that Alessandra Sorcinelli, a former Italian showgirl, has been demoted to call girl, at least in the UK press as The Telegraph reports on the Silvio Berlusconi sex scandals. We originally mentioned Alessandra way back in 2009 when she was still on Italian television screens. Since then, she has tried to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Elisabetta Canalis, who got a television break in the US after becoming George Clooney’s girlfriend.
The only problem it seems, is that Alessandra was lacking someone of the profile of Clooney, and didn’t make her dream in the US, returning to Milan to apparently become a call girl and get herself involved in the Berlusconi scandals. As you know from reading us, Italy is full of wannabe show girls, who become washed up showgirls at frighteningly young ages, and Alessandra can now probably include herself in that category. That the infamous Berlusconi parties were a way to get where you wanted on Mediaset television seems to be now completely denied. Another young lady going through the turnstiles of Italian politics and television….
Caterina Balivo is enjoying a brief holiday in the Maldives with her fiancé Guido Maria Brera; judging from the photos she’s having a lot of fun. Her talk show Pomeriggio sul Due on Italian television has been confirmed and her private life is going quite well, though at the moment she has no intention to marry or have children! This is at least what she told reporters!

The fact that not every girl in Italy can easily get herself a job as an Italian showgirl might make you think that the entertainment business here is exclusive in some way, but it seems that often those who get their faces on Italian television undergo a very random selection process. We don’t know who is responsible for this selection, and certainly not natural given the plastic surgery that abounds, but that we are often bombarded with some of the worst examples of femininity is evident.
Unfortunately Francesca Cipriani is one of those appalling examples. She embodies, whether intentional or not (could someone really be this dumb?), the bimbo role and has gained her position on Italian television by virtue of the extremely exaggerated boob job she had done some time ago. Cristina del Basso had to make way for Cipriani for the title of Italy’s biggest boobs, and the latter has decided to balance things and get her bum done as well.
Some comments from Italians are that it’s not difficult to use parts of your brain to pad out your bum but still, Cipriani or her agent, must have some marketing nouse in the entertainment industry because she’s still videoed and photographed and we’re still talking about her. Check out the exaggeration in the pics.

It will be a difficult move for the Italian show girl from Argentinian origin, if Belen Rodriguez were to be sacked from her brand endorsement role at TIM: Telecom Italia. We’ve already looked at how to do advertising in Italy, with Belen strutting around a pool in a white bikini not saying much for Telecom Italia’s products or services. But we thought they were on to something given the national obsession with scantily clad women on Italian television.
As it turns out though, the advertising series featuring Belen and Italian comic actor Christian De Sica hasn’t done much for TIM, with reports saying that they’re actually losing money because of it. The campaign is not to the taste of many customers, displeased with the provocative presence of Belen, and so TIM is moving to change it.
Brand endorsement from show girls in Italy is a huge slice of the marketing style, but apparently this time Telecom Italia is relying on the services of a couple of big Italian advertising agencies to come up with something new. It seems Belen Rodriguez might get to keep her spot as brand ambassador, but that she might appear more dressed and demure. It will be difficult for the Italian public to get used to seeing her more covered up, but then it might actually boost her image a little. After all, she’s probably only following a script that was given to her (walk around pool, stare seductively at camera, immerse yourself in water….). After the jump is one of the offending videos.
The fortunes of the Italian rugby team continue to play out as much in the PR world as they do on the playing field, and recently Italian television viewers had the chance to see a few of its star players, including Mirco Bergamasco, strip on television, dancing to “Hot Stuff” from the Full Monty soundtrack.
The routine was part of the Let’s Dance television show, which in itself was a total flop, but the Italian public who actually watched it would have got to see Rome’s football team, with some attractive Italian football players, battle it out with the rugby trio. The not-so-unattractive Marco Borriello won the competition heading up the Roma team, but take a look at the pics of the Bergamasco brothers from their Italian rugby calendar, along with the tv strip show, and tell me if it wasn’t a tough contest.
The director of the television-film, The Amanda Knox Story, has revealed that no-one in Italy has bought the rights to screen the movie on Italian television. The controversial film is perhaps too delicate for Italy at the moment, especially as the appeal process in the trial for the murder of Meredith Kercher is still going on.
Director, Robert Dornhelm, has said that his television film hasn’t been purchased in Italy, and he’s clearly perturbed at not being furnished any explanation for the missing broadcast. He is keen to clarify what his purpose is in making such a controversial film particularly for a court case that is not yet over.
Dornhelm is no stranger to Italian cinema and has lived in Italy since he was 13 years old, coming with his father who left his native Romania as a fleeing political prisoner. On his latest work, Dornhelm says:
“It’s not reportage, it’s not a documentary, it’s not a television fiction, it’s a true story. I want to describe the protagonists as they come across through the reading of documents. The psychological trip by way of the protagonists is more interesting, in my opinion, than the blood and search for the guilty.”
We will have to wait and see if Dornhelm’s talent and his work is up to his proclaimed task of analysing the psychological aspects of the story. He is says that the film is not intended to speculate on the outcome of the court case or the guilty parties. The Amanda Knox Story will soon be joined by a cinematic film directed by Michael Winterbottom with Colin Firth rumoured to play a key role as a journalist.

In a recent interview on Italian television, Elisabetta Canalis “revealed” that she’s not marrying high profile boyfriend George Clooney. The Italian showgirl did a very good PR job for herself, while host Fabio Fazio didn’t ask too many hairy questions, and said that the Clooney-Canalis relationship has no marriage plans as yet.
Elisabetta Canalis has been one of Italy’s favourite show girls and celebrities for years, and since she started going out with Italy’s favourite adopted celebrity, George Clooney, there has been nothing but pressure and speculation over if or when we’d be hearing wedding bells. Canalis’ career has got a boost, both in America and in Italy, since her high-profile relationship started.
Canalis will co-host the next San Remo festival with Belen Rodriguez, after appearing in the Italian cinema Christmas movie A natale mi sposo. That’s after appearances in America in the television series Leverage and plenty of star guest appearances on Italian television after a job as one of the Veline launched her career. It was on her upcoming film, where Canalis plays a wedding planner, that host Fabio teased her a little but clearly she has learned to take things in an ironic spirit and brushed off the comment. As if it were just her decision, though, Canalis says: “For the moment, I’m not going to get married.”
Since her fist apparition on Italian television a few years ago, Belen Rodriguez’s career has been unstoppable; her love affair with photographer Fabrizio Corona sent paparazzi and gossip magazines into a frenzy. For the Italian show girl Internet rumours are always running rampart. But today we are not here to talk about her life in the fast lane, but to take a look at her sexy calendar for Tim! No nudity this time but just classy gowns!
