Lake Como luxury hotels don’t get much better than this. If you want to indulge and enjoy the romantic setting of Italy’s beautiful lake, see the Gran Hotel Tremezzo as a luxury Italian hotel worth a stop. It’s on the “Riviera delle Azalee” (or Azalea Riviera), opposite Lake Como’s famous town of Bellagio and looking across to the Grigne mountains.
The grand palace has been decorated in ‘Liberty’ style and you won’t get much more elegant than this. It was first opened after the turn of the century, in 1910, and is certainly one of the more renowned destinations on Lake Como. Seeing this gallery of the Grand Hotel Tremezzo, it’s a lesson in European old-fashioned class, mixed with modern luxury including a health spa and access to the Menaggio and Cadenabbia Lake Como golf clubs.
The hotel has 90 rooms with two plush suites - Carlotta and Greta. The latter is a tribute to Greta Garbo who was among the first of the Hollywood stars’ fascination with Lake Como and Tremezzo. Two family suites are also available in the 18th century Villa Emilia. The hotel is next to Villa Carlotta, so you can stroll through the beautiful gardens there, too.

Casta Diva resort on lake Como was built around the beautiful Villa Roccabruna where the famous and talented soprano Giuditta Pasta lived (she was the first opera singer to perform Casta Diva which Vincenzo Bellini had composed specifically for her). Surrounded by an enchanting park and botanic gardens, the resort is comprised of nine villas which were converted into five-star hotels, and a state of the art spa where guests can relax and rejuvenate themselves. With the plethora of Italian showgirls out there, you wouldn’t have thought the locals would miss Australian model Megan Gale. But it seems they still have a soft spot for the girl who actually started her career in the Belpaese as a brand ambassador for Omnitel, which was taken over by Vodafone. And yes, she went on to be ambassador for that brand, too, perhaps one of the first before Michelle Hunziker and Belen Rodriguez started their advertising gigs.
These pics were taken for GQ Australia but show Megan Gale dressed in a bikini, in Italy. The backdrop looks like Lake Como and so it is that they’ve taken her back to where her career first started and picked a stunning (not to mention exclusive) Italian location for the shoot. We wonder how Gale felt being back in Italy where she first got her break.

While touring to promote his new film The American entirely shot in Abruzzi (the Italian region hit by a powerful earthquake a couple of years ago), George Clooney told reporters that Italy changed his life. His decision to buy a villa on lake Como revolutionised his attitude to life. “ That was a pure investment decision - I thought maybe I would spend a few weeks vacationing there. But then I realized how beautiful life was in Italy and how it really helped calm me and not feel so pressured.”

George Clooney is spending a few days of rest in his Italian villa on lake Como; actually the actor has been seen pottering around in the garden - getting everything ready for the arrival of his Italian girlfriend, Elisabetta Canalis I guess! The couple will probably stay at the villa until 27 June when the inhabitants of Isola Comacina celebrate the sagra with spectacular (and very romantic) fireworks but this time paparazzi won’t get any pictures of the happy couple: the mayor of Laglio has just banned them from the village in order to protect Mr Soave’ s privacy!

Italy’s famous Concorso d’Eleganza vintage and luxury car event has concluded with some stunning vehicles on display at the Villa d’Este on Lake Como. The “Coppa d’Oro” was won by a 1955 Maserati A6CGS, which is one of three examples built by Frua with a 2110 cm3 six cylinder engine. The lovely vintage Maserati belongs to John F. Bookout Jr.
Other vehicles on display at Cernobbio were a Talbot-Darracq GP 1500 Siluro Corsa, a 1965 Pininfarina Alfa Romeo Giulia 1600 TZ2 Coupé (with the prize for most exciting design) and a 1968 Lamborghini Miura Roadster (winning for best restoration). The most elegant car prize went to a 1935 Phantom II Continental Drophead Coupé, and a special prize went to Dutch collector Frans Van Haren for having driven his Mercedes-Benz 710 SS Sport Tourer all the way from the Netherlands to Italy for the event. George Clooney has denied rumours about his wish to sell the famous Villa Oleandra on Lake Como; he has also vehemently denied his intention to buy an island where to live with his new love, Italian show girl Elisabetta Canalis! Even the mayor of Aglio, the small town by the lake where Mr Soave lives, has now stepped in to say that it was just a lie fabricated by magazines. I don’t know what to think of all these rumours but I’m sure that the latest news must have quite annoyed Victoria Beckham who, according to tabloids, wanted the Italian villa all for herself!

It might not be George Clooney’s lovely Italian villa, but you can be guaranteed a slice of the Lake Como lifestyle anywhere in the area. This Lake Como apartment is for sale in Torno and while there’s not much information about the size of the apartment, there’s enough to tempt an enquiry.
The Torno apartment most importantly has panoramic views, and is done in rustic, period style with two bedrooms. It has a large lounge room, wooden beams and stone feature wall in the kitchen. An outdoor grotto and small garden provide lake views and outdoor dining. Torno is located 10 minutes from Como, on the road to Bellagio. The price for this real estate is set at 530,000 euros, see Knight Frank real estate for more details.
A real estate agent has confirmed that George Clooney’s Villa Oleandra on Lake Como is up for sale, according to a tabloid television news service in Italy. Can Cernobbio and Lake Como survive without the adopted Italian divo resident at his villa?
According to some comments, Clooney can no longer afford two things as expensive as his villa and his Italian girlfriend, former show girl and velina, Elisabetta Canalis. Meaning that both Clooney and Canalis will move away from Italy…? “Killing two birds with one stone” (I quote), how the Italians will be sad to see her go…
Some Italians are already offering alternative locations, however, with one commenter on Gossipblog.it suggesting Palermo as a possible arrangement. Have you got any ideas for a new Italian location for Hollywood’s most famous actor?
