The super successful Italian singer and leading Italian diva, Laura Pausini, will perform a New Year’s Eve concert at Olbia in Sardinia, receiving 400,000 euros for the evening, according to reports. She will perform on a 30 metre stage, equipped with a 20 metre high screen, in efforts to relaunch tourism to that part of Sardinia.
Laura Pausini’s New Year’s concert will last one hour and 45 minutes, although there’s no word on supporting acts for the singer. Gigi d’Alessio will also be a highly paid Italian artist on December 31, receiving 130,000 euros for a concert at Avellino, in Campania.
Controversy about this concert has ensued though, as residents of the area are concerned about wasting money on a big event, with Naples close by attracting more visitors. The mayor of the town has defended the decision, saying the money received from the regional government was specifically given for a big scale event.

After winning her fourth Grammy at the Latin Music Awards for best female pop album, Laura Pausini is celebrating with the release of a CD/DVD “Laura Live”. The DVD shows highlights from Pausini’s live concerts around the world, from Helsinki to South America, and obviously including scenes from many of her sell-out concerts in Italy.
The CD/DVD will include three new tracks “Con la musica alla radio”, “Non solo lei” and “Casomai”, as well as “Laura’s Gifts” which are five songs featuring in live concerts that won’t be performed again. The new DVD also marks a break for Laura Pausini, as she takes a couple of years off from a hectic and successful career.
Rumours suggest Pausini’s break might be maternity leave, but no confirmations from the singer herself are forthcoming. From past statements though, Laura Pausini has wanted to marry her long time partner and have a child, so this could be the time she dedicates to making a family.

On the stage will be singers and musicians such as Pino Daniele, Gigi D’Alessio, Gianni Morandi, Negramaro, Mario Biondi, Umberto Tozzi, Claudio Baglioni and many, many others, with Jovanotti making a video appearance from New York.
Personalities from the world of classical music will also be present, including Ennio Morricone in what we imagine would be a very moving tribute to the people of Abruzzo who died, and their families. Many of the artists are have composed, or are singing new songs, such as Pino Daniele with “Io per lei” or Lucio Dalla with “Caruso”.

A few weeks ago the Abruzzo region in Central Italy was devastated by a powerful earthquake and now Laura Pausini, one of the most famous Italian singers in the world is trying to raise money for its victims by organising a great concert. The concert should be held at San Siro in Milan on 21 June and up to now several great artists such as Elisa, Gianna Nannini, Giorgia and Fiorella Mannoia have graciously consented to perform for free, but, according to some, things are not running as smoothly as they should.
Apparently the divas and their managers are now quarrelling over the billing, which songs should be sung and who should sing them. Well, may we anticipate that they will dispense with their over-inflated egos and get on with the show. With thousands of people without a roof over their heads, it is anathema that they are posturing over these trivialities. Enough.
Here is an extract from an interview with Tiziano Ferro, published in Milan’s Corriere newspaper, a few days before Tiziano Ferro debuts his Tour 2009. The interview, by journalist Andrea Laffranchi, touches on many topics including Italy’s music scene today, Giusy Ferreri and the current talent show trend.
While the full article contains some interesting and sincere exchanges with the Italian singer, we give you a few extracts below to give you an idea of the person within Tiziano Ferro.
On the lack of song writers in Italy, Tiziano Ferro has said: “In Italy there are more singers than songs. The song is the key element, without it I wouldn’t get anywhere.” And in a candid comment on talent shows: ” ‘Amici’? I’ve never watched it. X-Factor? This year I watched only a few episodes and no-one impressed me.”

Laura Pausini kicked off her World Tour 2009 in Turin just a couple of days ago, though to tell the truth the famous singer gave a first sample of it in Brescia two Saturdays ago. Laura Pausini has had some success with her new album, and here is the Pausini, James Blunt video of “Primavera in Anticipo” or “Early Spring”. In the above version, there are even some Spanish lyrics. It may not be your style, but Pausini shows off her superb voice once again with a rock rhythm.
Last week we talked at length about the new edition of the Festival of Sanremo; today we’ll get a closer look at the 1994 edition when Aleandro Baldi won with a beautiful song called Passerà or It Will Pass. It was an extraordinary year, many great artists were present at the event; Laura Pausini sang Strani Amori or Strange Loves, Giorgia gave an amazing performance of “E Poi” or And then and Michele Zarillo enchanted the audience with Cinque Giorni, one of his greatest hits ever!
1994 also saw the last performance of Alessandro Bono who would die only a few months later from Aids-related complications. But there was a song called Signor Tenente or Lieutenant that really stood out from the rest; a song dedicated to two important Italian judges assassinated by the Mafia. Here’s the video of the song performed by actor/writer Giorgio Faletti.
