The Emporio Armani woman who took to the catwalk in Milan just a couple of days ago took us aback; many of us were in fact not prepared to see such a change of style. The black and greys of course still dominated the palette but there were sudden bursts of colour which were quite unexpected and literally lit up the runway.
Fur coats, mini-skirts and black sequin-smothered cocktail dresses were the key elements of a collection which, though inspired by classic elegance (Armani has always clung to it), looked modern, ultra feminine and tremendously sexy.

This year Mariuccia Prada’s collection for spring-summer 2010 came as un utter surprise; models walked down the runway wearing chandelier crystals and couture fabrics which took my breath away as soon as I saw them. There was something very pretty about those clothes - a feminine quality which was somehow unexpected and sent shivers of pure pleasure down many a spine!

At the Milan fashion week, actress Manuela Arcuri was cynosure of all eyes when wearing some of Soprani ’s hottest creations, she strutted down the catwalk like a pro. We also got the chance to see a few pretty clothes at the show. Much admired were the chemise dresses featuring small lovely belts and the sophisticated ensembles covered in paillettes. Blue, white and black seemed to dominate the collection and I can say without fear of being contradicted that with Soprani white and black have never been so chic!

With this new collection, Giorgio Armani left grey hues behind and embraced a new palette of blues. But to be truthful, at his show we also had the chance to see several exceptions, especially when a group of models come out wearing jewelled jackets and very short evening dresses which rather unexpectedly added a dash of colour and Hollywood glamour to the whole collection.

Gucci took centre stage in Milan and blew us away; this time Frida Giannini delivered a really amazing collection for autumn 2009, combining different styles , spicing up perfectly tailored tweed ensembles with high stilettos and adding big time drama with close-fitting dresses. But Frida also played with proportion and added masculine shapes along the way, creating beautiful waistcoats, skinny trousers and silky T-shirt dresses sparkling with crystals and worn over spray-on leggings.

The collection 1A Classe Alviero Martini for autumn-winter 2009/10 is entirely inspired by the 1970s. Using rather masculine fabrics such as tweed, the house delivered a solid range of elegant, sober clothes with really interesting details. Here we have a collection where simplicity is at last the key ingredient; a simplicity set off by delicate colours such as pale brown and navy blue. Take a look at our gallery!

For autumn/winter 2009-10 Just Cavalli created a collection inspired by Nancy, Spungen, Sid Vicious; Blondie and Iggy Pop. Mr Cavalli also opted for such aggressive materials as leather and high-tech denim, though the best thing about his new collection were undoubtedly the mini dresses that the Italian designer topped off with flashy-but- not-tacky jewels

Milan Fashion week is on and one of the first brands to walk down the runway was Elena Miro who presented an extremely feminine collection; using high quality materials such as satin, lace and chiffon, Elena Mirò delivered a whole range of elegant and sophisticated clothes. The outwear was absolutely gorgeous; from high-necked coats to beautifully tailored jackets. But, to be frank, what I loved most in this new collection for autumn 2009 was her eveningwear which included dramatically cut-low chiffon dresses and elegant black and white striped shifts in duchesse that Elena Miro topped off with a pair of cashmere opera gloves. An amazing collection! Take a look at our photo gallery and I’m sure you will agree with me.

Economies throughout the world are hitting a new low and Miuccia Prada, aware of this new scenario, prefers to play it safe on the runway, and yet she still does know how to inject chic into her creations. With her, grey suits, austere overcoats and black oxfords become the distillation of a powerful vision which elegantly mixes the classic with the futuristic; the old with the new.
