Accommodation in Milan: bed and breakfast Trovailtempo

By Alison in: Travel in Italy Milan

It can be hard finding good accommodation in Milan, particularly if you’re just passing through and don’t want a hotel near Malpensa airport. If you want something simple, in a leafy area, try the Trovailtempo Bed and Breakfast in Milan’s via Novara.

It has been completely restored and has its own garden, featuring four double rooms each with private bathroom, fridge and tea making facilities. If you want to stay longer in Milan and require your own kitchen, one of the rooms forms an apartment with a double bed, sofa bed and fully equipped kitchen.

Prices range from 90 euros to 200 euros a night, while the apartment ranges from 140 to 280 euros. For details of this bed and breakfast in Milan, see the Trovailtempo website.

Luxury Italian design: the Bulgari Hotel in Milan

By Alison in: Travel in Italy Milan

According to Forbes, Milan’s Bulgari Hotel is one of the best hotels in Italy. The hotel is situated in one of Milan’s most beautiful areas, between via Montenapoleone, famous for its shopping, and via della Spiga.

It’s an area which takes in La Scala opera house, and the accademia di Brera. The Bulgari hotel itself has the luxury of a large private garden, which provides a quiet oasis in a busy city, combined with contemporary Italian design and comfort.

The Bulgari hotel design is based on the use of rare and precious materials, including black marble from Zimbabwe, stone from Vicenza, Aphyon stone from Turkey for the spas, and teak and oak wood used in the rooms. ‘Special Rooms’ include meditation spaces complete with tatami flooring.

The Hotel Bulgari is offering two packages for business visitors or shoppers to Milan, with the Shopping Package at 710 euros, and the Business Package at 680 euros a room, a night, for a minimum of two nights. The packages include a 25 percent discount on limousine services, 50 percent discount for the third night, breakfast, Deluxe room upgrade and a Bulgari gift.

Staying at the Town House, Milan's seven-star hotel in the gallery

By Alison in: Travel in Italy Milan

Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II a MilanoFrom when the Town House Galleria hotel opened in Milan - the first seven-star hotel in Europe - our friends over on Travel Blog have been searching for someone who stayed there, to get a first hand account, as we are unlikely to ever have the opportunity.

We’ve found three guests on Tripdavisor, who have all given the hotel 4.5 or 5 out of five, reinforcing the perception that after only a few months, this is considered one of the best hotels in Milan.

What impressed the guests? The Italian guest was particularly struck by the location, describing it as breathtaking, and by the service despite the four out of five vote for reception service (which lowered the overall result for the hotel).

The Californian guest was also impressed by the service and features available, saying it took the manager half an hour to explain all the services available. Of note was also a little “extra” - with little notice the tourist manager of the hotel managed to organise a private visit of Leonardo’s Last Supper.

A Spanish guest was also enthusiastic about the restaurant and the use of a plasma tv, in addition to internet access in the suite. We checked out room availability for a couple of nights in December. Unfortunately the superior suites (Verdi, Toscanini, Donizzetti, Rossini) are all booked, but the Tow Bed Room is available at 7,950 euros.
