Although the summer is slowly fading away, the celebrations for Federico Fellini ‘s masterpiece La Dolce vita ( the movie turns 50 this year ) will continue with a series of fascinating events until November 2010; much awaited is the photographic exhibition La Dolce Vita. 1950 - 1960. Stars and celebrities in the Italian Fifties which will take place at the mercati di Troiano. This time visitors will have the unique opportunity to admire a series of snapshots taken by paparazzi of such glamorous celebrities as Audrey Hepburn, Alain Delon, Maria Callas, Shirley Winters, Charton Heston, Ava Gardner and Kim Novak (just to mention a few). The Amalfi Coast and Salerno are very romantic places in Italy, no more so than on Saint Valentine’s Day. This year the town of Cava dei Tirreni is taking Valentine celebrations one step further in an exhibition called “Una città per amare”, or “a city to love”. On display will be gigantic photos of some of cinema’s world famous kisses.

The photos comes from the Bettmann archives, among some of the most important photographic collections in the world. Some famous Italian ‘baci’ are on show: Marcello Mastroianni and Sophia Loren in “Il girasole”, Rodolfo Valentino and Nita Naldi in “Sangue e arena” from 1922. In addition to the Italian divas are other famous kisses, with none other than Grace Kelly and James Stewart on show, too.

Nicole Kidman has revealed that Italian diva and veteran actress Sophia Loren has become a role model, after the two worked together for the movie musical “Nine”. The interview, conducted by People magazine, is one in which Kidman answers readers questions, and reveals some aspects of her domestic life.

On the difficulty of ageing in an industry in which women must often be young and beautiful to get work, Kidman says:

Well, I live in Tennessee so it is slightly different than living in L.A. I just worked with Sophia Loren [in Nine], and she is so gorgeous and she has such grace. I use her as a role model.

And all we can say is, thank God women like Sophia Loren are showing the way for the rest of us as the years advance. When next my boyfriend spots a grey hair, I’m saying: “I’m sure Sophia Loren has plenty and she’s my new role model.”!

Italy’s walk of fame at Jesolo, Venice has inaugurated the hand prints of Sophia Loren during a special ceremony in piazza Brescia. Jesolo has a walk of fame along the seaside which includes famous names from Italian cinema, music and show-biz.

The names and handprints of famous Italians have been included along the walk since 2001, now called “Lungomare delle Stelle”, and Sophia Loren adds her name to Italian personalities such as Gina Lollobrigida, Andrea Bocelli, Katia Ricciarelli, Mike Buongiorno, Lino Banfi and Nancy Brilli.

A couple of days ago Italian actress Manuela Arcuri made an appearance on I sogni son desideri show and paid homage to Sophia Loren by imitating her famous strip-tease in the movie Ieri, Oggi e Domani (or Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow) starring the late Marcello Mastroianni. Although the comparison between the actresses is somehow inevitable, this time I will keep my opinion to myself! I do not want to trigger a cat fight!

Just a few days ago the cast and crew of Rob Marsall’s Nine , a movie starring such big names as Daniel Day-Lewis, Nicole Kidman, Marion Cotillard, Dame Judi Dench, Sophia Loren, Penelope Cruz, Kate Hudson, Stacy “Fergie” Ferguson, Ricky Tognazzi, Giuseppe Cederna, Valerio Mastandrea and Martina Stella, flew to Italy; as many of you already know, the movie inspired by Fellini’s classic film 8 ½ will now be shot on location in and around Rome. Our stolen pics from the set (i.e. Piazza del Popolo, one of the most beautiful squares in the whole world; though, to tell the truth, many tourists went ballistic because they were barred from the Piazza and the scene took a whole day to shoot) show Sophia Loren and Daniel Day-Lewis posing as their characters in Mr Marshall’s drama musical.

Italian actress Martina Stella has just been hired to play a character in Nine, the new musical directed by Rob Marshall. The movie based on Federico Fellini’s 8 ½ will star such big names as Daniel Day-Lewis, Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz, Nicole Kidman, Fergie, Sophia Loren, Judi Dench and Kate Hudson. Martina Stella is now in London where she has rented a house for the duration of the shoot.
