In news from Italy this week we get everything from the possibility of natural disasters to gossip over Italian football coaches and in the meantime you’d think Carla Bruni was Italy’s first lady for all the attention she gets in the press here. See the news below:
AC Milan coach Allegri illegally parks in Milan
We’ve seen the kind of parking that is “acceptable” in Rome, and while Milan is a busy city too, generally the northerners are slightly more disciplined. In the photo above, though, we see AC Milan coach, Massimiliano Allegri parking in a no-parking zone near a pedestrian crossing, in the opposite direction to a one-way street. And nearly risking an accident as he pulls away in his Audi A1.
A Roman Holiday for earthquake scare
After news broke that Lazio and Rome was facing a possible earthquake, the city either went into fright or went into holiday mode. With people avoiding built-up areas (and therefore office blocks), when the earthquake never really happened, a figure of 20 percent absenteeism from work in Rome was recorded. Apparently excuses displayed in closed shop windows included the following: “closed for family reasons”, “closed for wedding”, and simply “reopening tomorrow”.
More news from Italy this week after the jump.
Deadline has just published the news that Italian director/actor Roberto Benigni, famous throughout the world for La vita è bella, a film which landed him an Oscar in 1997, will join the cast of Woody Allen’s new film The Wrong Picture which is being filmed here in Italy. If the news is confirmed (according to the above website the announcement will be made at the upcoming Cannes film festival where Woody Allen will present Midnight in Paris) Roberto Benigni will have the opportunity to work alongside several well-established actors such as Jesse Eisenberg, Ellen Page, Penelope Cruz and Alec Baldwin.

As Italian director and filmmaking icon Bernardo Bertolucci will be honoured at the Cannes Film Festival with an Honorary Palme d’Or, Woody Allen’s Rome movie title has been revealed as The Wrong Picture. The world renowned American director has stated his intention to hire some Italian actors alongside the all-star cast of Penelope Cruz, Alec Baldwin, Ellen Page and Jesse Eisenberg.
Filming should take place soon at the Cinecittà studios and on the streets of Rome, although details are scarce on the plot and theme of the movie. Meanwhile, Penelope Cruz is in talks with Sergio Castellitto to appear in his next film Venuto al Mondo. The Spanish actress has apparently joked that she will spend her time in Rome working on her Italian language skills, as well. Perhaps Cinecittà will be saved after all?

The next Woody Allen movie will be filmed in Rome, after the famous American director did Match Point in London, Midnight in Paris in the French capital and Vicky Cristina Barcelona in the Spanish city. The confirmation of the new Woody Allen film from Rome comes as the director is in Italy with his New Orleans Jazz Band.
Italian cinema will be hoping for a small slice of glory and the world famous director could bring more notoriety to filmmaking in Rome after local production movie Manuale d’Amore 3 featured Robert de Niro and Monica Bellucci. Currently the cast and plot of the new Allen film is top secret, but filming should start in August. Will we see Carla Bruni appear in a Woody Allen film in Italy? It would be something to gossip about if it happens.
The studios of Cinecittà will host what is likely to be a big American film after Rome has featured in other big ticket films like Gangs of New York, Angels and Demons, and Barney’s Version, not to mention past greats like Roman Holiday, Ben Hur and Cleopatra. On Rome, Woody Allen has said:
“Every time [filming] it has been like declaring love to certain places and projecting my feelings about the places that have meant the most to me in life. I hope I can do the same with Rome. Both my family and I can’t wait to spend a long time in that amazing city.”

Woody Allen is planning to shoot his new film in Rome; this is at least what the American actor and director told La Repubblica, an important Italian newspaper. So after London, Barcelona and Paris, Mr Allen has chosen another European city as a setting for his work (filming should start next summer but the title is still top secret).
In the interview, he also told that he and his family can’t wait to spend a few weeks in the eternal city! To get a foretaste of what’s to come, Woody Allen and his band will play at the Auditorium next week; if you are a fan of the sax, you can’t miss it!
We doubt if this nude pic of Carla Bruni is what we’ll see in the Woody Allen film, but one thing is sure: the French first lady has accepted an offer from the famous and sometimes controversial American director to appear in a film. Carla Bruni says herself that she is not an actress, although having had a career as a model and singer would probably help all the same.
We suspect Bruni’s nude modelling days are over, now that she is the wife of a president, and the Woody Allen role is nothing specific as yet. Madame Sarkozy says:
“I am not an actress at all. Maybe I’ll be completely hopeless, but I can’t miss an opportunity like this one in my life. When I’m a grandmother, I’d like to be able to say I made a film with Woody Allen.”
Just what I was thinking about my possible future grandchildren, too.
